Doctors in the UK now have to go through revalidation ever five years, where they have to prove that they are up to date with medical advances.
There are many medical courses available, designed to promote the skills and knowledge of GPs and hospital doctors. The system of revalidation was brought in after the GMC was criticised in the Harold Shipman inquiry.
This severely damaged confidence in the medical profession, and revalidation should repair this and enhance patient safety.
Doctors who want to pass revalidation need to take courses and attend seminars. Some of the courses that are available can be found here.
